When Should Your Child See an Orthodontist?
Orthodontic treatment is recommended when a child has:
✔ Crowded or overlapping teeth
✔ Gaps between teeth
✔ Overbite, underbite, or crossbite
✔ Difficulty chewing or speaking
✔ Thumb-sucking habits affecting tooth alignment
The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) advises that children have their first orthodontic evaluation by age 7. An early assessment allows an orthodontist to detect potential issues and recommend treatment at the right time.
