Meet Dr. Amir Davoody, Your Houston Orthodontist
Dr. Amir Davoody is a board-certified orthodontist in Houston and a Top 1% Invisalign Provider in the United States. From his practice on Kirby Drive in West University Place, he personally guides every patient through treatment, combining specialist training with the kind of one-on-one attention a boutique, single-doctor practice can offer.
When you choose Davoody & Hablinski Orthodontics, you are not handed off between rotating providers. You see Dr. Davoody himself, from your first consultation to the day your braces or Invisalign aligners come off. That continuity, built on more than a decade of advanced orthodontic experience, is the heart of how we care for families across the Inside-the-Loop neighborhoods of Houston.
Meet Dr. Davoody
Dr. Davoody chose orthodontics for a simple reason: it is one of the few areas of healthcare where a specialist can guide a patient through a long, personal journey and see a confident, lasting result at the end. He built his practice around that idea. Rather than scale into a high-volume, multi-provider model, he kept it intentionally focused, so that each patient receives a treatment plan designed and delivered by the same orthodontist from start to finish.
His office sits in the heart of the 77005 community, steps from Rice Village and minutes from the Texas Medical Center, River Oaks, and Montrose. Many of his patients are neighbors: West University families sending a second or third child through treatment, Rice University faculty, physicians from the Medical Center, and working professionals who want a discreet, expertly managed path to a straighter smile. Dr. Davoody knows this corner of Houston well, and the practice reflects the standards its patients expect.
Dr. Davoody treats patients at every stage of life. He guides children through early, growth-timed treatment, helps teenagers through braces or Invisalign on a school-friendly schedule, and gives adults a discreet, efficient path to the smile they have wanted for years. Whatever the age or the case, the goal is the same: a healthy bite and a confident smile, achieved with as little disruption to your life as possible.
Education and Training
Dr. Davoody’s path to orthodontics began with his dental education and continued through specialty residency and a research-focused master’s degree.
- Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) — University of Maryland School of Dentistry
- Certificate in Orthodontics — University of Connecticut
- Master of Dental Science (MS) — University of Connecticut
After earning his dental degree at the University of Maryland, Dr. Davoody completed his orthodontic specialty training at the University of Connecticut, where he also earned a Master of Dental Science. His graduate research focused on temporary anchorage devices (TADs), small titanium anchors that give orthodontists precise control over tooth movement in complex cases. That work earned him national recognition early in his career (see Honors and Recognition below).
He has stayed close to academic orthodontics ever since, serving as a part-time faculty member in the University of Connecticut’s Department of Craniofacial Sciences and attending clinical meetings nationally and internationally to keep his techniques current. For patients, this matters in a practical way: the methods Dr. Davoody uses are informed by the latest evidence, not simply by habit.
Board Certification: A Standard Beyond Licensure
Choosing the right orthodontist is an important decision, and one of the clearest signals of quality is board certification. Dr. Davoody is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO), the only orthodontic specialty board recognized by the American Dental Association.
Are all orthodontists board-certified?
No. Every orthodontist must complete dental school and an accredited orthodontic residency, but only about half go on to earn board certification through the ABO. Certification is voluntary. It represents a distinguished, additional level of achievement and a public commitment to clinical excellence and lifelong learning.
What board certification involves
Established in 1929, the ABO is the oldest and only ADA-recognized board for the orthodontic specialty. Earning Diplomate status is a rigorous, multi-step process:
- Written examination. A comprehensive exam covering every area of orthodontic science and practice.
- Clinical examination. The orthodontist presents detailed reports from their own completed patient cases, which are reviewed and graded by a panel of expert examiners.
- Oral examination. A face-to-face assessment of diagnostic reasoning, treatment decision-making, and clinical judgment.
- Ongoing renewal. Certification is time-limited. Maintaining it requires recertification, so a Diplomate’s standards are tested over the length of a career, not just once.
When Dr. Davoody recommends a treatment plan, it reflects this level of peer-reviewed accountability. You can learn more about the standard from the American Board of Orthodontics directly (opens in a new tab).
Professional Affiliations and Memberships

Dr. Davoody’s Approach to Patient Care
The defining feature of care at Davoody & Hablinski Orthodontics is continuity. Because Dr. Davoody is the single treating orthodontist, he knows your case personally, he tracks your progress himself, and he is the one who adjusts your plan when your teeth respond faster or slower than expected. Nothing gets lost in a handoff between providers.
That single-doctor model shapes the whole experience:
- One orthodontist, start to finish. The doctor who diagnoses your case is the doctor who treats it and the doctor who removes your appliances.
- Treatment tailored to you. Dr. Davoody offers a full range of options, from Invisalign clear aligners to Damon and traditional braces, and recommends what fits your goals, your bite, and your life, not a one-size template.
- Specialty depth where it counts. Beyond routine braces and aligners, Dr. Davoody treats complex cases that many general practices refer out, including airway-focused orthodontics, surgical orthodontics for jaw alignment, and TMD and TMJ jaw-pain concerns.
- Modern, comfortable technology. Digital tools replace the messy molds and guesswork of the past, making appointments faster and treatment more predictable.
This depth matters most in the cases that are easy to overlook. Airway orthodontics looks at how the jaws and airway affect breathing and sleep, not just how the teeth line up. Surgical orthodontics coordinates braces with jaw surgery to correct skeletal bite problems that aligners alone cannot fix. And TMD and TMJ care addresses the jaw-joint pain, clicking, and headaches that move many patients from doctor to doctor without answers. These are exactly the cases Dr. Davoody is trained to recognize and manage, and they are a large part of why patients with complicated histories are referred to him.

What to Expect as Dr. Davoody’s Patient
Your first visit is a conversation, not a commitment. Dr. Davoody examines your teeth and bite, discusses your goals, explains the options that fit your case, and answers your questions in plain language. You leave understanding what treatment would involve, roughly how long it would take, and what it would cost, with no pressure to decide on the spot.
If you move forward, you see the same orthodontist at every appointment. Dr. Davoody monitors your progress himself and adjusts your plan as your teeth respond, so small issues are caught early and your treatment stays on track. When your braces or aligners come off, the orthodontist who started your care is the one who finishes it.

A Note on Our Practice History
Davoody & Hablinski Orthodontics carries the name of its two founding orthodontists. Dr. Mark Hablinski, a longtime fixture in Houston orthodontics, helped establish the practice and its reputation for quality before retiring. We have kept the joint name out of respect for that history and the trust it represents in the community.
Today, Dr. Amir Davoody is the practice’s sole treating orthodontist. The name on the door honors where the practice came from; the care you receive comes directly from Dr. Davoody.
What Our Patients Say
